Eclectic Whole Foods - Simon's Coffee House

Tamiami Trail Sarasota

In Sarasota, people seem to either know about Simon's Coffee House and love it, or they don't know about it and are thrilled to discover it. Located in a nondescript strip mall just south of Constitution Blvd, on the west side of Tamiami Trail, this bustling bistro recently expanded to include a to-go section, along with indoor counter and tables, and outdoor cafe seating. The menu is mouth-watering, whether you're a healthy, veggie-eater or crave traditional comfort food. Somehow, Simon's commingles the two into some of the best meals in Sarasota.

For instance, on a recent day, the specials (which come with a cold side or homemade soup) included Greek Veggie Casserole, with cauliflower, leeks, potatoes, feta cheese, topped with spinach stewed tomatoes and almond crusted tofu; and Smokey Veg Burger Melt, with mustard, mayo, smoked gouda, veggie burger, soy bacon, tomato, and greens on millet lavash.

Just want a snack? How about an Apricot Cream Cheese Danish, Wheat Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie, or Apple and Mixed Berry Strudel? Thirsty? Well, there's the scrumptious Mango Lassi, sort of like a heavenly creamsicle, whipped up from yogurt, honey, and mango.

The atmosphere at Simon's is pure fun, too. Bright, light, filled with smiling and socializing, from breakfast through lunch and into the dinner hour. Service is cheerful, genuinely helpful and accommodating. The staff know the menu inside and out and are happy to suggest dishes to suit your mood or need.

If you visit Simon's on a weekday morning, also be sure to check out the "BREAD" store a few doors to the left. This is fresh-baked bread at its most heavenly, using only natural ingredients. Be sure to try the multigrain and the rosemary focaccia, along with the several other favorites including dark rye, white, regular rye, and others. Once you've found the Bread store and Simon's you'll be an honorary local Sarasotan!
