Attractions -Selby Botanical Gardens

Tucked in a corner, right on the Sarasota Bay, is the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The estate is built on 9.5 acres with gardens and an open-air and under-glass museum with more than 20,000 plants. The Garden is a non-profit institution supporting the understanding of tropical plants, perhaps best known for its collection of over 6000 orchids!
The gardens include:
Tropical Display House with an incredible collection of rare orchids and bromeliads
Bamboo Grove including giant timber bamboo from China
Banyan Grove, which was planted by the Selby's in the 1930s, along with a spectacular walkway. A great way to see the treetops.
Cactus and Succulent Garden
Cycad Collection from Asia, Mexico, Central America and native species from Florida
Along the bayfront the visitor can experience a mangrove walkway with red, black and white mangroves
Breathtaking views of the Sarasota Bay
Wild Things with surprises from the rainforest, such as poison dart frogs
There is also the Christy Payne Mansion, located on the estate, which is an example of eclectic Southern Colonial architecture. The Mansion offers temporary botanical and art exhibits.
The visitor can easily spend a few hours here. The professional staff will answer all your questions and when you are ready for a break, enjoy a lunch in the garden café and breath in the wonderful atmosphere. Here is a place that the whole family can enjoy!
The Selby Gardens are open everyday from 10 AM till 5 PM, except Christmas, at 811 South Palm Avenue in Sarasota.
